Press Release - Cambodia airline offers 50% discount on airfares to Phnom Penh

FIRST Cambodia Airlines, which started its maiden flight from Kuala Lumpur to Phnom Penh on Feb 25, is now offering a 50% discount on airfares to the Cambodian capital.  According to chief executive officer George Kwok, the discount is valid up to March 31.   The airline hoped to cash in on 700,000 tourists travelling from Malaysia to Cambodia a year, not including businessmen on official trips, he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.  Presently, the airline flies to Kuala Lumpur three times a week.  Meanwhile, commerce counsellor from the Cambodian Embassy, Uch Kin Yon, who was also present, said that with First Cambodia Airlines' regular flights to Phnom Penh more Malaysians would be able to visit the capital city.  The hotels in Phnom Penh were relatively cheap and there were several Malaysian-owned hotels in the city offering halal Malaysian food, he said.  Businessmen are encouraged to set up factories in Cambodia and take advantage of tax-free incentives offered to investors.   The cost of labour there is very much cheaper than that in Malaysia, which makes sense to many Malaysian businessmen who mainly set up garment factories for export to the United States and European Union.  Decent hotels could cost as low as US$25 per night, Uch said.  The one-and-a-half year old airline hopes to fly to two major cities in China, namely Shanghai and Kunming, to bring in Chinese tourists to Asean countries.
